PRESCOTT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

The Yavapai County medical examiner has confirmed that human remains found in January are those of a man missing for nearly a decade.

Lawrence "Larry" J. Powers was last seen in April 2007 at gold mining stores in Wickenburg and Salome, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office

Sheriff's officials said the then 58-year-old Powers was a partner in a mining claim outside of Bagdad, Arizona, with Anthony Richards.

Richards was arrested last May in Oregon, accused of identity theft and fraud charges for allegedly using Powers' credit card.

Powers was declared to be presumed dead by a California court in 2012.

The medical examiner used dental records to confirm the identification of the remains.

YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said first-degree murder charges are pending against Richards, who remains in custody on multiple fraud charges involving the victim's stolen credit card.
