GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -
Grand Canyon park rangers recovered the body of an 18-year-old man last weekend.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting that a man had fallen from the rim near the South Kaibab trailhead.
Park rangers located the body, but the steep terrain, snow and ice, and impending darkness limited their access. On Sunday, rangers were short-hauled by helicopter to the location and recovered the body of Luis Gonzales, of San Diego.
The National Park Service and the Coconino County medical examiner are conducting an investigation.
