SIERRA VISTA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -
A 20-year-old Sierra Vista man was arrested after leading police officers on an 8-mile pursuit in a stolen vehicle last weekend.
An officer spotted a blue Chevrolet Cobalt near Charleston Road and Colombo Drive at around 1 a.m. Saturday and confirmed that it had been reported stolen earlier that day.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Kristopher Riley, refused to pull over and reached speeds of up to 100 mph while continuing westbound on the Highway 90 bypass, according to police.
Riley reached Huachuca City, where an officer with the Huachuca City Police Department assisted with the pursuit.
Police said Riley lost control of the vehicle when it got a flat tire. The car came to a stop and Riley ran away while the vehicle caught fire.
After a brief foot pursuit, Riley surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Firefighters put out the car fire.
Riley was booked into the Cochise County Jail for theft of means of transportation, criminal damage, felony flight, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and two outstanding warrants out of Cochise County.
