A man wanted in connection with a violent murder and robbery in Georgia has been apprehended in Arizona.
John Wetherington Jr., 27, was arrested in Phoenix Friday afternoon, U.S. Marshal David P. Gonzales said.
Besides murder and robbery, Wetherington was wanted by the Floyd County Police Department in Georgia for a probation violation out of Whitfield County, GA.
Wetherington and an accomplice allegedly killed the victim during a drug deal in Floyd County in 2015.
The accomplice involved in this case was arrested in 2015, however, Wetherington remained at large.
Investigators developed new information indicating that Wetherington may be in Arizona. The U.S. Marshals Service-led Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force was notified.
"The level of interagency cooperation exhibited during this investigation was second to none," Gonzales said. "It is the persistence and dedication of multiple agencies that leads to the capture of fugitives regardless of the days, months or years since the crime."
Wetherington was located at a home in the area of Seventh Street and E. Roma Avenue in Phoenix.
He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail to await his extradition to Georgia.
