CHANDLER, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Chandler police are offering a $1000 reward for any tips concerning a hate crime that involved the reconfiguration of an eight-foot menorah into a swastika on the front lawn of a Chandler home.

Police received a call from the residents of the home near McClintock and Chandler Boulevard in the early morning hours of Dec. 30, 2016. The menorah, made out of PVC pipe, was placed in the front yard by the homeowner to celebrate the holiday before being vandalized into the emblem of the German Nazi Party.

A patrol officer arrived on the scene to investigate and help the homeowners to disassemble the swastika so their children would not see it. The case is now being investigated by detectives in Arizona’s Criminal Investigations Bureau with assistance from the FBI.

Police are urging anyone who has any information about the crime to contact the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130 or to contact Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377. People may also leave an anonymous tip on the Silent Witness website at silentwitness.org
