PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

If it wasn't for a delivery man being in the right place at the right time, a house fire in Phoenix could have been tragic for a group of dogs.

Gabriel was dropping off a package for Amazon on Tuesday in the area of 43rd and Missouri avenues when he noticed smoke coming from the home.

"He tried to knock on the door to see if anyone was in there. He's the one who got the fire department out here real quick," Lea Anne Botteicher, a neighbor, said.

No one was home, so he called firefighters.

Crews arrived and saved the five dogs that were inside the home. All of them were shaken up but otherwise in good shape.

"The pets are OK. The personal belongings are going to be damaged. For the most part, the home, they saved quite a bit of the home," Capt. Aaron Ernsberger with the Phoenix Fire Department said.

No one was hurt. Botteicher is glad Gabriel was there to help save the day.

"If it wasn't for him, it could've been a lot worse because he saw the flames. Nobody else would've saw them," Botteicher said.

An investigation is underway into what sparked the flames.
