PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Phoenix police have arrested two people in connection with the death of an off-duty Daisy Mountain firefighter.

Brandon Douglas Draper, 26, is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Timothy John Piegari, 42, is accused of hindering prosecution and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Police said Draper was working as a doorman at Centerfolds Cabaret when he assaulted Luke Jones on Jan. 21 by pushing him to the ground and then striking him in the head numerous times.

Jones was taken to the hospital in a Lyft car, court documents said. He later died.

Piegari, a manager at the club, is seen on video disconnecting the video surveillance equipment, according to police.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard said Jones was restricted in his ability to defend himself due to a pre-existing injury and brace protecting one of his arms.

No one answered the door at either Draper or Piegari’s homes for comment.

Across the street from Piegari’s home, Adrian Lenyard said he has known the strip club manager for eight years and considers him a trustworthy neighbor.

“I know his codes to his house, he knows mine. Once he leaves for two days or so, I know that. He knows when I leave,” Lenyard said. “My reaction was: I hope he's not involved in no way or fashion because he's just a nice guy. He's nice to everyone around here.”

People living near Draper’s home said the 26-year-old moved in recently and lives with his mother.

Michelle Blake said she heard about the incident at the strip club on the news, but never suspected one of the defendants lived next door to her. Like several other neighbors, she said she had few, if any, interactions with Draper.

“He was washing cars. Sometimes I'd see him out there during the day, and that was really it,” said Blake.

Draper made his first court appearance and bond was set at $250,000. He has a history of traffic violations and one for underage drinking.

Piegari appeared before a judge and was released on his own recognizance. He previously was in prison for two years for a marijuana violation.

Jones, 37, was with the Daisy Mountain Fire District for 12 years.
