PRESCOTT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

An 88-year-old man was put in a chokehold and knocked to the ground in a robbery in Prescott Valley Wednesday morning.

The victim, who was at a Circle K on Highway 69, gave the man $10 from his wallet which also contained several hundred dollars in cash that was clearly visible.

“At this point, the suspect asked for more money so he could celebrate his child's birthday,” sheriff’s deputies said in a news release.

The man declined and began pushing his walker west on Copper Hill Drive.

“A short time later, the suspect caught the victim from behind, put him in a choke hold and knocked him to the ground,” YCSO said.

The suspect ran off with the man’s wallet containing about $600 in cash and the victim's identification.

Sheriff’s deputies have identified the suspect as Taylor Jonathon Williams, 31, a transient in the area. He is on probation and a probation violation warrant has been issued for his arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

Williams is described as white and between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He weighs 170 pounds and has a thin build.

Williams was wearing a black beanie, a black quilted jacket and a black T-shirt with a Volkswagen logo on the front. There was also another logo in white above the VW logo. He wore black pants that were skinny or tapered at the ankles and black Adidas athletic shoes with white stripes.

The sheriff's office has released a picture of him, in addition to surveillance photos that were released earlier.

Deputies learned the suspect is either partially or completely deaf.

People with any information about the suspect or crime are urged to call the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office at 928-771-3260 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232. Callers to Silent Witness are eligible for a cash reward if their tip leads to an arrest.
