Police are interviewing the person they believe assaulted and robbed a man and then led officers on a short chase early Thursday morning.
It started just after 4 a.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street.
Police said the suspect, who was armed with a knife, punched the victim in the face and then stole his car and money.
A police officer in the area noticed the stolen vehicle and started following it, launching a pursuit.
"Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect ignored the lights and sirens," Sgt. Mercedes Fortune of the Phoenix Police Department explained in a news alert.
The suspect stopped and abandoned the stolen car near Third Avenue and Culver Street, which is on the northwest side of Margaret T. Hance Park. That's about a 5-minute drive from where the robbery took place.
The suspect ran away, but officers quickly caught up and took him or her into custody.
Fortune said fire personnel treated the suspect for minor injuries, but she did not elaborate on those injuries or how the suspect was hurt.
