France votes to make spanking your kids illegal

Previously a common form of discipline, spanking is viewed as increasingly controversial.  In light of spanking becoming illegal in France, parenting coach Dodie Blomberg discusses risks to spanking, and other ways to discipline our children.

French bill states: "bans parents from inflicting punishment that is cruel, degrading and humiliating". This includes spanking

  • What does spanking teach? ;Don't get caught next time
  • Mistakes are bad, painful and humiliating To be the boss… I need to hurt others
  • I'll get even next time
  • Why do people spank?
  • Explain the brain and what happens when we are scared or really mad
  • Cool down first.
  • What do we want to teach?
  • Respect, mistakes are ok, problem solve,
  • Cool off and solve problems
  • You matter and we can fix problem
  • No parent wakes up in the morning thinking. I can hardly wait until I can punish, humiliate, and degrade my child!
