Phoenix's Veterans Day Parade will "Welcome Home Vietnam Heroes"

Veterans Day is chalk full of parades in every city, including one of the largest, which is held in Phoenix each year. This year, the Phoenix Veterans Day parade celebrates 20 years with glowing tributes to our nations heroes and honoring Arizona veterans with floats, marching bands and more.  

The parade will also feature:

  •     18 Floats
  •     15 Marching Units
  •     Dozens of color guards and military vehicles
  •     Seven Bands
  •     Three large helium balloons including Uncle Sam, the Bald Eagle and the Purple Heart.
  •     animal entries, novelty units and much, much more.  

Parade will run: South on Central starting at Montebello, East on Camelback Road, and South on 7th Street to Indian School Road

Apache Junction Veteran's Day Parade

This Veteran's Day weekend, party Apache Junction-style at this community celebration in the shadow of the Superstition Mountains. There will be plenty of fun, including live music, an obstacle course, bounce houses, a petting zoo and local vendors. The festival opens after the Apache Junction Veterans Day Parade on Friday with a veteran’s tribute. A movie will be screened outdoors Friday night, and a car show will take place Saturday.

Tempe Veterans’ Day Parade

Tempe will continue its long-standing, annual tradition of honoring all military veterans with a Veterans Day parade on Friday, Nov. 11. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at ASU Gammage and proceed north on Mill Ave., concluding at Tempe Beach Park, Mill Ave. and Rio Salado Pkwy.

Veterans Day parade participants include members of the Tempe City Council, various Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, local school marching bands, community members, veteran’s groups and many more.

Mesa to honor veterans with parade and benefit concert 

Mesa will honor veterans with the annual East Valley Veterans Parade Friday, Nov. 11. The parade in downtown Mesa will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with many veteran and military themed activities including the Fallen Soldier Memorial. As many as six high school marching bands are expected in addition to historic military vehicles and local entries. 

The parade will begin at Center Street and 6th Place/Athletics Way, travel south on Center Street and turn west on First Street. The parade will continue on First Street to Robson where it will end. 

The 2016 Grand Marshal and Service Representatives from each branch of the U.S. military will be announced after Oct. 1. The parade is organized by the East Valley Veterans Parade Association. For more information, visit or call (480) 684-2324. 

A free Veterans' Benefit Concert will be held immediately following the parade at the Mesa Arts Center. Help support the Mesa Veteran's Programs while enjoying a free concert, live performers, food trucks and more! Donations will benefit Housing Our Heroes to provide housing for homeless veterans.

Veterans Day ceremony at Anthem Veterans Memorial

The 5th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Anthem Veterans Memorial takes place at 10 a.m.  The patriotic program honors the service of all veterans and their families. This year's ceremony includes a historic aircraft flyover, and at 11:11 a.m., the sun's rays will pass through the five Armed Services pillars' ellipses to cast a solar spotlight over the mosaic of the Great Seal of the United States. 

The AVM is located at Anthem Community Park, 41703 N. Gavilan Peak Pkwy. Take I-17 to exit 229. Turn east (right). Turn south (right) on Gavilan Peak Pkwy. The Memorial is on the left at the four-way stop signs and entrance to the park.

Eating red, white & blue pancakes with Veteran

IHOP is offering free Red, White, & Blue Pancakes to all veterans and active duty military this Veterans Day! IHOP's classic Red, White, & Blue Pancakes return to show gratitude to the men and women who have served their country. On November 11 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. at participating IHOP Restaurants, all veterans and active duty military will receive IHOP's world famous Buttermilk Pancakes with glazed strawberries, blueberry compote and whipped topping for free. Westworld hosts "The Moving Wall'

This weekend at Westworld, The Arizona Thunder Run & Veterans Rally gets underway, beginning today at 1pm. At the expo, they'll feature "The Moving Wall," a replica of the original Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington D.C. 

Bring a Toy for our Toys for Tots run. The US Marines will be set up to collect toys for the Toys for Tots campaign.

The "Moving Wall" exhibit is Free to the Public and will be held in conjunction with the Arizona Thunder Run Veterans Rally. The Thunder Run will feature Motorcycles and a Hot Rod Show.  There will be exhibitors, food and the Cold Hard Cash Show will be offering up their fantastic tribute to Johnny Cash. This family event is designed to bring the Veteran community together with family and friends.

First-time Mariachi Festival featured at Orpheum Theatre 

All eyes will be on the Orpheum Theatre this weekend as it features the lively music and festive atmosphere of an inaugural Mariachi Festival Sat. Nov 12th. The event promises to be a show-stopping cultural experience of sound and sight. 

Popular mariachi groups, headlined by "the world's best mariachi," Mariachi Vargas, led by Carlos Martinez, musical director who was named to replace the late legendary musical director Pepe Martinez who guided the group for nearly 30 years, will descend on Phoenix for this one-of-a-kind musical festival. Wildlife World Zoo introduces us to a lion cub 

A lion cub from the Wildlife World Zoo visited our newsroom this morning. It represents the 2nd largest cat in the Animal Kingdom, and are known for being the most social cats in the world, living in prides upwards of 8 or more cats

Lion facts: 

  • Found in Africa
  • 2nd largest cat in the world
  • Males can get over 500lbs while females average around 350lbs
  • Easy to identify males vs females (males have the large mane)
  • They are the most social cats in the world and live in prides usually made up of 1-2 males and 5-6 related females and their cubs
  • They are inactive for about 20 hours a day
  • Female do the majority of the hunting and the males protect the pride
  • Their biggest threats are habitat loss and hunting

Anthem's 15th Annual Tree Lighting Celebration 

The Outlets at Anthem welcomed Arizona's tallest Christmas tree on Friday, Oct 14th, and tomorrow, it will be lite in a special evening ceremony, hosted by our very own Javier Soto. the ceremony begins at 5pm, tree lighting at 7pm. It took a 10-person team more than 120 hours using mobile cranes to shape and decorate the 22-foot-wide tree with 80 strands of LED lights and more than 5,000 ornaments and bows.
