Chandler-Gilbert Community College Hosts Annual Veterans Expo for Local Vets
CGCC will be hosting the 8th Annual Veterans Resource Expo today, November 3rd from 1 to 4 p.m. at CGCC's Pecos campus. The expo is free and open to the public, and will allow veterans and their families an opportunity to network with over 30 local businesses to learn about job opportunities and veteran resources and services.
This year's event speaker is Sgt. Gerry Jones, an internationally-known architect, co-founder of the town of Carefree and holder of the world's largest private collection of contemporary Chinese art. Sgt. Jones will speak about his experiences as a Marine sniper/scout during World War II, and his additional service during the Korean War teaching self-defense skills to Marines.
Exhibitors from a variety of government and community groups as well as businesses and organizations looking to hire veterans will have tables at the Expo. Among these are the VA and VA Healthcare, VA Vet Centers, Arizona Department of Veterans Services, VFW, American Legion, Veterans Stand-Down and Department of Economic Security and employers such as Home Depot, Chandler Police Department and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University will also have their military outreach specialists in attendance to speak with students about transferring.
The 8th Annual Veterans Expo will be held inside the Agave Building Community Room at the Pecos Campus located at 2626 E. Pecos Rd. from 1 to 4 p.m. Sgt. Jones will address attendees at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, particularly student and local veterans. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

With all the negative publicity police have been getting, Hob Nob's Cafe started a free meal for police officers. They've been doing it for veterans for a few years.
They haven't seen a lot of officers so they thought they would bring the meals to the officers. They will be delivering lunch to the downtown Phoenix precinct to 150 officers around 1pm. They will also bring back meals for the overnight crew as well.

American Girl Fashion Show Benefits Phoenix Children's Hospital
The American Girl Fashion Show is back in Phoenix and ready to make dreams come true for hundreds of local girls. The second annual catwalk event is happening at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa and features four shows over two days. Fifty local girls will strut their stuff on the stage at each event with an American Girl doll in tow. Proceeds from the fashion shows benefit The Emily Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital, an educational center and library for families with children affected by serious injuries and illnesses. The event raised more than $50,000 for The Emily Center in 2015 and drew more than 900 attendees.

Toasted Avocado Tartine
- 2 slices of sourdough bread
- 2 ripe avocados
- 2 tsp citrus cumin salt
- pinch of cumin seeds
For the Citrus Cumin Salt:
- sea salt
- lemon zest
- red pepper flakes
1. Toast the slices of bread, meanwhile prepare the citrus cumin salt (SEE BELOW).
2. Slice each avocado in half, reserving 1/2 of one avocado for slices. Scoop the rest into a bowl and mash gently with a fork. Season to taste with sea salt, black pepper and lemon juice.
3. Spread the avocado mash across the toasted bread, and sprinkle with citrus cumin salt and sprinkle with chia seeds. Top with avocado slices.
TO PREPARE Citrus Cumin Salt: To prepare, simply mix all the ingredients together.
