Get creative with seasonal glass blowing classes

Tis the season to try something new and hot! At Circle 6 Studios in Phoenix, you can try your hand at glass blowing, in a fun 2-hour class. In this brief 2-hour class you will learn some basics about glassblowing and the studio. You will then proceed to use the hot glass to make a project which you get to keep. We do have to anneal the pieces overnight so you will have to return the next day to pick them up. The purpose of this class is to provide you with an inexpensive way to find out if glassblowing is for you. It is fun and, we think, quite addicting.

Circle 6 has been creating custom glass for clients for many years. We will work hand-in-hand with you or your team to create the perfect piece for your space. From leaded and etched glass to blown glass and metal sculptures the possibilities are endless. If you have a project in mind give us a call and we will be happy to help with the entire process.

Newtown

There are no words of compassion or reassurance that can bring back the 20 children and six educators who lost their lives during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In Kim A. Snyder's searing new film Newtown, we are given exclusive access into the homes of those who lost loved ones. They speak candidly about their grief, anger, and disbelief over what occurred and how nothing has changed in regards to our legal response to gun violence.

The movie will be shown at these movie locations:

Fresko opens in Ahwatukee next month

Chef Kody Harris has always had the secrets of fresh, homemade Greek cuisine in her blood. Starting Tuesday, Nov. 8, food enthusiasts will get to experience her innovative cooking at the opening of the fast casual concept Fresko.

Harris is no stranger to the Phoenix dining scene. The former Executive Chef of Thirsty Lion and current owner of BOH Consulting, Harris is Greek and learned the unique flavors of Mediterranean cooking from her grandfather, who was also a chef. Harris and her wife, Janna, are excited about the debut of Fresko.

"Fresko is the restaurant I've always wanted, from top to bottom," Harris says. "Fresko translates to 'fresh,' and that's exactly what we offer in this kitchen. Great food doesn't have to be unhealthy food."

With Greek classics like Souvlaki, Keftedes and Spanakopita, Fresko touts the disease-fighting benefits of the Mediterranean Diet, with fresh vegetables, nuts, grains and olive oil at the foundation of most dishes.

The restaurant's interior is focused on recreating the authentic Greek home experience, with reclaimed barn wood walls, intricate tile work and a natural, countryside vibe. Paying homage to her roots, the walls include a side-by-side photo of her grandfather in his kitchen and Harris in hers.

Fresko is located at 5033 E. Elliot Rd. in Phoenix and is open every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant doesn't currently serve alcohol, but patrons can bring their own beer, wine and spirits.
