MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

You've probably heard the expression "misery loves company." And if that holds true, a new dating app should be very successful!

The app 'Date Miserable People' launched right here in Phoenix this week.

It's the brainchild of Shaun Price. He says he created the site so people could engage in online dating while keeping it real and honest without feeling intimidated.

"D.M.P is an online platform that allows people to engage in online dating honestly and within the realities of their daily lives," Price said.

Price said he personally has been through the trials and tribulations of all the online dating websites and has experienced the "intimidation of feeling inadequate for the majority of people that have profiles posted on these sites."

The idea of D.M.P., according to Price, is to give users with "not-so-perfect lives" a place to be comfortable sharing their lifestyles, interests and concerns without feeling inadequate.

"The majority of the sites, everybody's perfect," said Price. "Everybody's got a beautiful picture, everybody loves to travel, everybody loves to hang out with their friends but that's not really who they are. Really who they are in their daily lives is really a different picture."

So what about the unusual title?

Price explains it like this: "Misery is completely subjective to each individual.  A member might be 50 years old and still living in his parents' house. Another member might be having a hard time getting over the passing of a family member. Another may not have any family or friends in their life. Let's just face it... some people are just miserable in general. Misery is what each person considers it. There is no ranking or measurement for the level of discontent or unease in an individual's life. However, the opportunity to meet others, share situations and experiences in an honest and real dating platform may just bring some relief, happiness, content and joy to people's lives."

Right now there are digital billboards up on the Valley's freeways promoting D.M.P.  And commercials for the app are being played in 32 cities across the United States.
