Trump attacks McCain in latest social media rant

Posted: Updated:

Donald Trump launched a brutal stream of attacks against his own party on Tuesday, including a sharp dig at Sen. John McCain.

One the day before Arizona voters begin casting early ballots, the GOP presidential nominee tweeted, "The very foul-mouthed Sen. John McCain begged for my support during his primary (I gave he won), then dropped me over locker room remarks!"

The comment comes after McCain revoked his endorsement of Trump following the release of an 11-year old video in which the GOP presidential nominee bragged about groping and attempting to seduce married women.

Several other key Republicans withdrew their support as well.

Calls to McCain's campaign were not immediately returned.

The chairman of Arizona Republican Party, Robert Graham, declined to comment.

"He does not want to talk about the McCain-Trump stuff right now," said Tim Seifert, a spokesman for the Arizona GOP.

Seifert did say the party remains firmly committed to supporting Trump.

"We are the party and we support the nominee, period."

Donald Trump lashed out Tuesday at House Speaker Paul Ryan and others in the GOP for distancing themselves from his campaign.

"It is hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others give zero support!" Trump tweeted.

Disloyal Republicans "are far more difficult" than Democrat Hillary Clinton, he lamented. "They come at you from all sides," he tweeted. "They don't know how to win - I will teach them!"
