Phoenix Suns Tyler Ulis' buzzer beating three leads to Summer League win over Nuggets

Tyler Ulis' long 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Phoenix Suns an 82-81 overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets Saturday in the Las Vegas Summer League quarterfinals.

In a game that was tight throughout, neither team was able to secure a double-digit lead at any point. Rookie Dragan Bender had two free-throw attempts with 0.4 seconds left in regulation to win the game, but missed both to send the game to OT. Neither team was able to score in the extra two minutes until Jamal Murray hit a layup with 1.8 seconds left that seemingly won the game for Denver. That still gave the Suns one final opportunity and they capitalized on it, as Tyler Ulis nailed a 3-pointer from nearly halfcourt to win the game.

In addition to Ulis' heroics, Phoenix won the game on the back of their defense. The Suns forced 16 turnovers and slowed the Nuggets in transition, allowing just four fast break points. The Nuggets did dominate the boards, however, snatching 48 rebounds while holding Phoenix to just 40.

Along with his 3-point heave to win the game, Ulis led the Suns' attack for much of the game, finishing with 19 points and four assists over 35 minutes. Troy Williams finished as the team's leading scorer with 22 points, and center Alan Williams chipped in 11 points and 16 rebounds. Though he shot just 3-for-12 from the field and came up short at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, Bender did reject four shot attempts.

On the Nuggets side, Jamal Murray continued his fantastic summer league in this tough loss, scoring a game-high 29 points, while also grabbing seven boards. Murray scored 22 of his points in the second half on 10-for-16 shooting. Jimmer Fredette was second on the team with 16 points, while rookie first-rounder Juan Hernangomez accumulated 10 points and 12 rebounds.

With the tough loss, Denver finishes the summer league 3-2, while the Suns will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in a semifinal matchup Sunday.
