PD: CA standoff appears unrelated to Phoenix serial shooter case

Phoenix police said they believe a chase and standoff in California early Thursday morning is not related to the serial shooter case in west Phoenix.

According to broadcast reports, Costa Mesa, CA, police responded to a man seen with a gun who resembled the suspect in a sketch of the serial street shooter wanted in Phoenix.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Jonathan Howard confirmed Phoenix officers “have been in contact with California authorities and believe these incidents are unrelated.“

The shooter Phoenix police have been looking for is connected to a string of unsolved homicides over the last several months.

The incident in California led to a chase, standoff and arrest of the suspect at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The shootings in west Phoenix have left seven people dead and two others hurt since March 17. The cases have been forensically linked.
