NAVAJO COUNTY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A 47-year-old Snowflake man who attended a custody hearing for his grandchildren Tuesday is accused of killing the children's mother and maternal grandmother outside a Navajo County courthouse.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office said Salomon Diaz, 47, of Snowflake, was taken into custody after the fatal shootings. He faces two counts of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff's officials said there was a court hearing at the Holbrook County Complex regarding the custody of two children. The hearing apparently didn't go the way Diaz wanted and deputies said he went to a car, got a gun and shot the two women as they were coming out of the courthouse. They later died.

The women have been identified as Ashley Utley, 25, and Sherry Quintero-Davenport, 45. They were the mother and maternal grandmother of the children involved in the custody hearing. Angela Chambers, 68, the children's aunt, was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Diaz is the children's paternal grandfather. He had been taking care of them for an extended time, according to the sheriff's office.

The Navajo County Homicide Task Force is continuing to investigate the incident.

No court employees or members of the public were hurt.
