MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Police have released the names of a woman and a girl who were fatally shot outside a west Phoenix home early Sunday.

Police identified them as Angela Linner, 31, and Maleah Ellis, 12.

The third victim, a 33-year-old woman, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police said the victims were sitting in a vehicle in a driveway of a home near 67th Avenue and McDowell Road when they were shot.

The incident was described as a drive-by shooting.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a male leaving the area in a light-colored vehicle immediately after the shots were fired.

Neighbors said they heard as many as nine gunshots.

At this point, it is not clear if the victims were targeted or if this was an incident of random violence.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.
