Hands Only CPR

Recently, Arizona became the 32nd state to make Hands-Only CPR training a requirement in high school. Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation that requires all Arizona public and charter high schools to provide one or more sessions of Hands-only CPR. This is a huge lifesaving win for the state of Arizona and will empower Arizona students with the tools and confidence to start CPR in an emergency. Ultimately, we will be graduating an army of super hero lifesavers!

In honor of this momentous event, and National CPR Week, the Halle Heart Children's Museum is having CPR Super Hero Day at the Museum on Saturday, June 4th.

Disciplining Kids

Parent's long term goal: is to raise responsible, reliable, reasonable, solution focused, caring adults

Sometimes parents are reactionary to "misbehavior", instead of taking time to teach what the child is missing.  Fear and fatigue are big contributors to parents "misbehavior" too.
Discipline teaches children for the future (learn and practice new skills, gain new insights, fixing mistakes, etc.)
Punishment focuses on past behavior and tends to include an aspect of hurt, humiliation or pain.
Humans are meaning makers.  We interpret life's situations with our own private logic.  "What does this mean to me?"
What meaning might that boy be making about himself, his parents, the world?
-    I'm unloved and unworthy
-    Parents/ people do not care and are willing to throw me away
-    The world is frightening, I am alone, etc.
Take time to teach our children perspective, skills and problem solving
Keep in mind, their misbehavior does not need to lead to our misbehavior.
-Apologize, manually fix the problem,
-Support them respectfully and let them experience the outcome.
