"It was really scary especially because it happen on the freeway," said Sarai Pacheco of Phoenix.
A loud boom no driver wants to hear. Your tire blows out and the temperature outside is over 100 degrees.
"This weekend is gonna be really hot so I just want to make sure that my tires are good," said Pacheco.
The heat can wreak havoc on your wheels.
"It can cause blowouts and tire separation," said Jay Simmons of Discount Tire.
So what should you look for before you hit the road?
"Make sure no excessive cracking or separation and no bubbles in the tires," said Simmons.
And as far as the tread on your tires?
"The Lincoln head trick - if you can see his head, it's time to replace your tires," said Simmons.
If Phoenix were a cooler climate we wouldn't see excessive damage to our tires.
"That’s why we see a lot of pieces (lying) on the side of the road because the roads get so hot it almost melts the tires away," said Simmons.
