LEGOLAND Center Opens

It's one of Arizona's most hotly anticipated attractions ever, and it's set for an April debut.
LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Arizona, the first attraction of its kind to open in the state, will boast two LEGO® rides, a 4D Cinema and endless opportunities for creative play when it opens to the public in Tempe's Arizona Mills mall Friday, April 22 at 10 a.m. In addition to massive, large-scale models, LEGO® building areas and festive party rooms for birthday celebrations, the 40,000 square-foot facility will feature a Master Model Builder responsible for maintaining and updating LEGO® MINILAND models.

Arizona's newly crowned Master Model Builder is Alecsander Posta of Phoenix, a caregiver for the developmentally disabled who beat out more than 100 other contenders in a Master Model Builder competition held last month at the Arizona Mills mall food court. A graphic design student with a sharp eye for aesthetics and an innate ability to interact well with children, Posta plans to utilize his unique skillset to introduce others to the endless possibilities that abound when creating using LEGO® bricks.

"Who wouldn't want to play all day and get paid for it? It's a dream come true for me," Posta said. "I can't wait for LEGOLAND® Discovery Center to open and to see the children's faces when they get a glimpse of what's inside."

Arizona's ultimate indoor LEGO® playground is set to open April 22.  Hours of operation will be: Monday- Saturday 10 a.m.  7:30 p.m. (last admission at 5:30 p.m.); Sunday 10 a.m.  6 p.m. (Last admission 4 p.m.)  The LEGO Shop is open Monday- Saturday 10 .am.  7:30 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.  6 p.m.  Please check our website for the most up to date operating hours as they sometimes change.  Please allow at least 2 to 3 hours for your visit.

Dave Owens, The Garden Guy

Organic pesticides to use around your home: Before you start spreading dangerous chemicals around your home, decide if the insect and or pest is actually hurting anything. With so many different types of insects and pests around the valley it will require different methods to tackle each case from rabbits to ants. These methods will be simple solutions and recipes you can make yourself, but like mentioned earlier you always want to know what you are dealing with first. Not all insects are bad and some actually help in your garden to fight off other insects that are bad and won't cause too much harm to your garden or home. An example that will be covered is using DE or Diatomaceous Earth or known as fossil shell flour and kills by mechanical action. It remains effective for as long as the product is active and is safe to use in or outside your home and garden. Vinegar is also a great alternative to use as well as molasses spray which will also be covered.

Live Longer with Japanese Food: Stingray

A recent study reports that a Japanese diet can be a key to a longer life. Its balance of grains, vegetables, fruits and fish and meat reduces risk of heart disease and stroke. That's something Chef Andrew Nam or Stingray Sushi has known for years. Nam has been a sushi chef for nearly 30 years and helped bring Japanese cuisine to the Phoenix dining scene.

The Japanese diet is a balance of grains, vegetables, fruits, fish and meat. This is great for heart health.

Japanese cuisine shows us how to eat a little of each of these in fun and delicious ways: just look at the Bento Box and the creativity of sushi rolls.

At Stingray, the Fuji Apple Salmon is one of its most popular entrees. The sauce is best on salmon but can be used on vegetables too.

Stingray Sushi serves traditional Japanese dishes and also many with a Latin flare. There are two Stingray locations at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix and Chandler.

American Grit watch party at the Dakota

Tonight, one of Arizona's own yoga master Kimberly "KJOY" Lipson will compete on the new military-inspired competition series AMERICAN GRIT, which debuts TONIGHT on FOX at 8 p.m.

WWE® Superstar John Cena and an elite group of mentors from the nation's most exclusive military units - Navy Seal Commander Rorke Denver, Army Sergeant Noah Galloway, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Tawanda "Tee" Hanible and Army Ranger Nick "The Reaper" Irving - will push these fierce contestants beyond their limits while instilling in them the ethos of leaving no teammate behind. The diverse group of civilians will be divided into four teams, hand-picked by the military mentors, known as "the cadre." With up to a million dollars of prize money at stake, this is the ultimate competition and test of courage, determination and, most importantly, teamwork. As these competitors work together, they will only have two options: to persevere and win or give up and "ring out."

To celebrate the debut, Lipson  who grew up in Paradise Valley and whose family owns popular Valley staples Carlos O'Brien's Mexican Restaurants and Julio G's  will be hosting a special watch party at the Dakota tonight starting at 5p.m., with a portion of proceeds from the event benefiting charity. The Dakota will have special pricing and all the TVs will be tuned in to see Lipson compete. Entrance to the event is free. The Dakota is located at 7301 East Indian Plaza Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
