PHOENIX (AP) -
Democrats in Legislative District 26 have nominated an all-women slate of three candidates to fill the Arizona House seat vacated by recently appointed state Sen. Andrew Sherwood, a Tempe Democrat.
Sherwood was appointed earlier this month to replace a Democratic state senator from Tempe who resigned to take a new job in Nevada.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that Democrats in the district have nominated Samantha Pstross, Athena Salman and Celeste Plumlee for the House seat, saying they have a unique opportunity to ensure the next lawmaker is a woman.
Roughly 60 percent of Arizona legislators are men.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will pick one of the three for the appointment.
