BevMo! Beer & Candy

Justin Oderkirk, of the BevMo Store shows which candy taste great with beer or a glass of wine. That's right, beer can actually enhance the flavor of classic Halloween candies.  Amber Ales and Twix? A delicious carmel fix. Snickers and Stouts? A creamy, chocolate combo that will make your taste buds shout.

Pairing Halloween Candy & Beer:
1.    Chocolate candies (Reese's Cups, Snickers, Milkway …)  Taste Best With Stouts
a.    Pair chocolates with beers that have a similar taste profile - i.e. chocolate stouts with chocolate candies
b.    The creaminess that comes about naturally from a Stout pairs perfectly with any candy that has a milky chocolate flavor, whether in full or just the shell
c.    The darker, aromatic malts used in Stouts enhance the not only chocolate flavor, but also complement the richness of a peanut butter cup

2.    Twix Tastes Best With Amber Ales
a.    It's all about the caramel in this pairing
b.    Amber Ales have a more pronounced caramel flavor than other beers, which goes nicely with the caramel of Twix
c.    The light copper brown color of Twix caramel matches the brewed malts of Amber ales

3.    Candy Corn Tastes Best With Pale Ales or Lighter Style Lagers
a.    An interesting pairing as it's a bit scientific
b.    Both contain diacetyl, which is naturally in alcoholic beverages.
c.    In candy corn, this chemical is added to create the classic 'buttery' flavor
d.    That shared elements makes these a match
e.    The hops of a lighter lager also helps cut the sugariness of candy corn

4.    Sour Patch Kids Taste Best With IPAs
a.    Sour Patch Kids have a very strong, bright citrusy taste
b.    The citrusy nature of an IPA creates big flavor when paired

5.    Starburst Taste Best With Wheat Beers
a.    The lack of bitterness in this beer makes it great for fruity Starburst
b.    The traditional Belgian process that includes flavorings such as orange, complement the fruitiness of this chewy candy

Farm Sanctuary/ Phoenix walk for farm animals

Director and Producer Michael Moore shone a light on this awful topic years ago, and again it's back in the spotlight with support from singer Moby, Martha Stewart and actor James Franco. We're shining a light on a the gross underbelly of the food industry.

We all like to think of the happy chickens running around a farm laying fresh eggs. The reality couldn't be further from the truth, and it's gross! On many farms, chickens beaks and toes are cut off with no anesthetic, ducks are violently force-fed, cows live in cruel, appalling conditions and that's just the beginning. Would we actually have a healthier diet if we treated our farm animals with some compassion and respect?

You can live in alignment with your values, and activist Matt Ball explains how. How does the food industry deliver meat to the consumers without inflicting such pain, suffering and deplorable conditions to the animals?

On October 31st, Phoenix Walk for Farm Animals will be taking place. The Walk for Farm Animals brings together thousands of people to raise vital funds to support the lifesaving work of Farm Sanctuary, a national nonprofit that works to change the way society views and treats farm animals. It's a hot topic we cannot ignore.

President and Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary, Gene Baur wrote a book called Living the Farm Sanctuary Life. It's a practical how-to guide for living in alignment with your values
