The official kick-off for the holiday season is still about a month away, but kick-off for the Arizona Cardinals' annual food drive, benefiting St. Mary’s Food Bank, began Tuesday.
Hyundai is sponsoring the food drive, which runs now through Thanksgiving.
Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Drew Stanton made the first donation Tuesday morning.
“It’s very rewarding, getting a chance to come out here and show support for the community that supports us,” Stanton said. “As simple as bringing a few cans to a Monday Night Football game goes a long way, and we’re fortunate to be in the position that we’re in. And having such a good fan base within the city, we try to give back as much as we can.”
Jerry Brown with St. Mary’s Food Bank says the Cardinals food drive is one of the biggest events of the year and goes a long way to help Arizona families.
“30,000 turkeys, 30,000 holiday meals… we are going to distribute just in the week leading up to Thanksgiving alone,” Brown said. “We thank Hyundai, we thank the Arizona Cardinals.”
Football fans attending Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens can bring canned food or cash to donate at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
Food and monetary donations can also be made at any of the Hyundai locations in the Valley now through Thanksgiving.
