The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating whether damage to a Phoenix police sergeant's personal vehicle was caused by road debris, a gunshot or something else.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves says a passenger window shattered Tuesday morning while the sergeant was driving to work on eastbound I-10 between 35th and 43rd avenues. The sergeant was not injured.

Graves says no immediate determination has been made on what caused the damage, let alone whether it was related to four recent shootings of vehicles on I-10 in Phoenix.

But Graves says there are frequent incidents in which freeway debris causes damage to vehicles and their windows and windshields.

A Phoenix Police Department spokesman, Officer James Holmes, referred inquiries to the DPS.
