MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Phoenix police have located the suspect vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Thursday morning in the area of Southern and 51st avenues.

Witnesses told police that a minivan driven by a male swerved into the bike lane and struck a man riding his bicycle just after 1 a.m. Thursday. Both were headed southbound.

The driver did not stop.

Police said a witness chased the vehicle to try and get a license plate number but couldn't. That witness last saw the vehicle in the area of 55th Avenue and Baseline Road.

The bicyclist was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police were looking for a white Chrysler minivan with heavy damage on the passenger side. A possible suspect vehicle was located nearby and officers have contacted the registered owner.

The investigation is ongoing.

The victim's name has not been released.
