MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Phoenix man stuck inside a chimney has both feet back on the ground after Phoenix firefighters rescued him Saturday morning.

He was stuck for two hours before bystanders heard his cries for help, said Capt. Ardell Deliz of the Phoenix Fire Department.

The 34-year-old homeowner said he got locked out of his house around 7 a.m. and decided to re-enter by climbing down the chimney, Deliz said

Instead, he got stuck.

People in the area of his house near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road eventually heard his cries for help and called police.

Fire crews provided the man with water while the technical rescue team devised a plan to pull him out.

“The patient felt strong enough to attach a rope to himself with some coaching and hold on, as crews pulled him back up through the chimney crown,” Diaz said

The man suffered some minor cuts and refused any treatment.
