All the rage right now, chalk paint is great to create a variety of looks, including vintage, shabby chic, cottage and the popular elegant worn rustic look. You can use it for pretty much anything -- cabinets, furniture, picture frames, candle stick holders, etc.

While you can buy ready-made chalk paint, it's more cost-effective to make it.

  • Glidden Premium Interior Flat Paint
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Water
  • Wooster Special Effects Paint Brush
  • Americana Decor Creme Wax
  • Lint-free cotton rags
  • Container for mixing
  • Measuring spoons

Mix 2 1/2 tablespoons of Plaster of Paris with 1 1/2 tablespoons of Water; blend until smooth.

Mix the plaster-water mixture with 1 cup of Glidden Premium Interior Flat Paint; blend until smooth.

Clean surface to be painted. (No sanding or priming required for clean smooth surfaces. For best results, sand rough, scratched or damaged areas.)

Apply desired base coat color; let dry.

Apply second color over base coat, either completely solid or dry brush for a more work rustic look. Let dry.

With lint-free cotton rag, apply Americana Decor Creme Wax. Dip rag into wax. Use a circular motion to cover entire surface. Up to 3 coats. The wax penetrates the paint to create a protective hard shell.
