PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -
"I just can’t get it out of my mind," tormented Valley mom Peggy Stowe told me Monday after the grisly decapitation murder of her 49-year-old daughter, Trina Heisch, over the weekend. "I keep picturing what they say happened to her."
The horrible crime was discovered Saturday morning at the Phoenix apartment Heisch shared with her 43-year-old husband. It was a bloody scene where cops say the husband had not only murdered Heisch, but also mutilated himself, cutting off one of his own arms and popping out one of his eyes.
"He indicated to us that he is the one who committed the homicide,” Phoenix Police Sgt.Trent Crump said Monday, talking about an interview with the hospitalized husband. "We had an opportunity to talk to him; most of the conversation was delusional," but "he is the one that cut off his arm and took out his own eye."
According to Heisch's mom both Heisch and her husband have long histories of mental illness. She said Heisch was a loving person who was always trying to help others, particularly the homeless.
"She would do anything for people, give them the shirt off her back," she said.
Given the couple’s history of mental illness, Stowe said she is sympathetic to her daughter’s alleged killer.
"I’m kind of sorry for him, too, because I know when he gets his mind straight, he’s going to be in really bad shape because he’s going to realize what he has done," she said.
Police say the husband is now being treated at a Valley hospital for his horrible self-inflicted wounds and will be formally identified, charged and jailed once he is released.
