Back To School Shopping Bargains

by:  Rachel Harris, Managedmoms.com

August 3rd is the day that many of our local schools start back and that is just around the corner, so I did some research to help you save money on your back to school shopping.  Take a look before you hit the stores for your kids' school supplies.

Office Max/Office Depot Deals

The two companies are merging so here are some things to know about how to save at these popular school shopping stops....

*Sign up for savings when you go to www.officemax.com and add your email address to their free membership program. Also sign up for text alerts and receive coupons, although do keep in mind that message and data rates may apply.

*Visit www.officemax.com for back to school shopping specials.  This week backpacks are 30% off, although the sales change weekly and may be different at different store locations so be sure to still check your closest store when you visit the store website.

*School uniforms are also sold at the website and are frequently marked down.

*This store also offers free delivery on $50 qualifying orders and store pick-up, so avoid the lines and do your back to school shopping online and then simply pick up at the store or have it shipped to you.

*1 cent deals with $5 minimum purchase!  These change weekly but here are the one cent deals that I found online last week under the Sneak Peek section for my store and this offer is good through July 25th.  So go online to see if this same offer is current at your closest Office Max, too.  Through this Saturday, July 25th Scholastic and Office Max Brand glue is only 1 cent with a limit of three per household, Office Depot black and blue point pens in a 10 pack and a pack of index cards also sells for just one cent through Saturday with a $5 minimum purchase.

*$10 backpack sale on SwissGear backpacks through this Saturday as well.

There are other specials, too so be sure to visit the website before you head out into the crowds or do your shopping online.

Best Kid & Teen Tested Backpack

Now that I have one who is a high school senior and one that starts 8th grade, we have put backpacks to the test and our favorite, by far, which has been the most sturdiest line and has lasted is the Jansport backpack. Tilly's has been offering a $5 off sale and one store salesperson told me that the sale would continue, but a live chat Tilly's rep told me that they don't know for sure how long the sale will run.  Tilly's has a large selection of all kinds of solid colored and decorative Jansport backpacks so check them out for the best quality backpack, in my family's opinion.

Target

*Online coupons - one way to save is to go to target.com, scroll down the home page and select the box with the red scissors that says Coupons.  I did that and I was able to print out a coupon good for $2 off.  The fine print says that it has to be the Up&Up line for a $10 purchase, so that saved me $2 at the checkout line.

*Check out the Up & Up line since this line is Target's own brand and is usually less than the other back to school brands.  For example, I purchased an Up&Up cute pink poka dot pair of student scissors that cost me $2.99 compared to the Fiskars that sell for $3.99 so I saved one dollar there.

*Your Yoobi line purchase at Target helps a student in need.  For every Yoobi school supply item you buy, a Yoobi item will donated to a classroom in need here in the USA.  Love that! You buy, Yoobi gives is the slogan and I support that for sure.

*We also found a backpack special at Target that is a Starpoint backpack that comes with free on ear studio grade headphones.  We got both for $25 so that is a cool deal and the headphones work with iPod, Iphone and mp3 devices.

*Target is also advertising that this week select school supplies will be offered for a buy one, get one at 50% with the lowest priced item marked down to 50% and this is mix and match so multiple types of supplies can be purchased at half off.

Staples

*Cool online deal - go to Staples.com and look under weekly ad for school supplies for a coupon that advertises to buy a backpack and then get 25% off selected school supplies.  The offer is good through August 1st and can all be ordered online so it is convenient, too.

School Uniforms

*For good discounts on school uniforms, check out Wal-Mart, both online and in the store.
