World Cup excitement fuels fire for young soccer players

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - World Cup excitement is reaching a fever pitch as the American women prepare to take on Nigeria in the 16th round of the Women's World Cup.

On Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona, Heidi Goitia visited with some budding female soccer stars to see how the international soccer frenzy is affecting them.

The 10-year-old girls practice at the Center for Athletic Performance, a facility where many athletes train, including local high school and college soccer players, both men and women.

The young athletes take the sport very seriously, and some train 6 to 10 hours a week. Coaches tell us the girls set their "goals" high, as they aspire to become the next Mia Hamm or World Cup champ.
