A man who shot a woman and a police officer died after he was shot by police on Saturday afternoon, according to Sgt. Richard Guinn with the Apache County Sheriff's Office.
The incident began when the man reportedly fired a gun from the cab of a red pickup truck as he drove by the LDS Stake Center in Eagar.
The Eagar Police Department, Springerville Police Department, Apache County Sheriff's Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Game and Fish Department, and U.S. Forest Service responded to the scene.
The suspect, 40-year-old Eric Robinson of Eagar, fired at officers striking an officer from the Eagar Police Department.
Other law enforcement officials pursued the suspect as he sped away from the scene.
Robinson drove to his house and ran inside. Officers began establishing a perimeter and attempting to evacuate nearby residences.
Robinson began firing from inside his house at law enforcement personnel. As he ran out of his house towards a deputy, officers from the Eagar Police Department and deputies from the Apache County Sheriff's Office shot him.
Robinson was taken to the White Mountain Regional Medical Center in Springerville where he died from his wounds.
Sgt. Guinn said the Eagar police officer who was shot is in good condition. He was treated and released from the White Mountain Regional Medical Center.
The woman was shot in the shoulder. She was transported to Summit Regional Medical Center in Show Low. No information is available at this time on her condition.
The Eagar Police Department and the Apache County Sheriff's Office have requested that the Arizona Department of Public Safety handle the investigation.
