PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

Just in time for the summer heat, Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix is launching a brand new attraction. The Crazy Cactus Roaring River officially opened May 21.

The Crazy Cactus Roaring River is formerly the lazy river. But this river is no longer lazy! It features wave action, fast-moving water, tipping buckets, refreshing waterfalls, water cannons and water curtains in an invigorating river ride.

"We wanted something a little more exciting," says Heather Austin with Wet 'n' Wild. "It really is a great ride for all ages."

For the grand opening Thursday, local dignitaries joined season pass-holders for a ribbon cutting and first rides. Lifeguards dressed up as castaways, and planned to share treats and gifts with guests throughout the day.

The park is now open 7 days a week. There are also extended hours this season. The park is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and then Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, it is open until 10:30 p.m.

2015 Season passes: Purchase four or more season passes for $54.99+ tax each before May 25 and get one free parking pass for the entire season, plus 20 percent off select food items and discount visits for friends.

Other improvements at the park this year include 500 additional lounge chairs, more shade, and more food options.
