PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -
A Valley mother who left her kids in a hot car while she went to a job interview appeared on the Dr. Phil show on Thursday.
The interview on the national syndicated television show came less than one week after Shanesha Taylor was sentenced to 18 years of supervised probation. Taylor is also required to undergo parenting classes.
While on the show, Taylor expressed confidence in her ability to find a job despite her criminal record.
"Felons go out and get jobs every day. It's all based on your effort," she said. "Me having a felony on my record does not mean that stops my drive to find what I need to take care of my children."
But Dr. Phil challenged Taylor, asking, "If that's true, wouldn't that have been exponentially more true if you weren't a convicted felon?"
Taylor generated a lot of sympathy for a tearful mug shot and because she was trying to find gainful employment.
She also earned more than $100,000 in online donations from people around the country who felt bad for her.
The judge was also sympathetic, at least initially, and told Taylor she could avoid a jail sentence if she put some of the money into a fund for her children.
Taylor failed to do so, and said she spent a lot of the money on everyday living expenses.
That didn't cut it with the judge and child-abuse charges against her were reinstated.
Her sons were 2 years old and 6 months old when they were left in the car in March 2014.
Is Shanesha Taylor a child abuser or a misunderstood mom?
