Idina Menzel plans Valley tour stop Valley August 9Posted: Updated:
You know her from Broadway hits like Wicked and Rent. Now Tony Award-winning icon Idina Menzel is coming to the Valley. She is launching a world tour this summer, and is stopping here in the Valley August 9 at Comerica Theatre.
Menzel visited us on Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona to talk to Olivia Fiero about her tour and what we can expect from the show.
The actress has a diverse career that traverses stage, film, television and music. She became a star on Broadway with her roles in Wicked and Rent. Menzel's voice can be heard as 'Elsa' in Disney's Frozen, in which she sings the film's Oscar-winning and very popular song "Let It Go."
"In my house, we don't play "Let It Go" very much because my son doesn't want to listen to it," she joked. "He could care less that mommy sings."
She plans to take her son on the road with her. "I take him with me because I couldn't live without him being there," she says.
Menzel also recently wrapped a year on Broadway in the original production If/Then, earning her third Tony Award nomination.
Earlier this year, Menzel released her first-ever Christmas album, Holiday Wishes. She will star in Happy Time, a new comedy from Ellen DeGeneres. Menzel most recently sang the "National Anthem" at Super Bowl XLIX, which set the record for the most-watched show in U.S. history.
Idina will also launch a national tour of the musical If/Then this fall. It kicks off in Denver in October.

Menzel is also known for her philanthropic work. In 2010, she created A BroaderWay Foundation with Taye Diggs. This organization is dedicated to offering girls from under-served communities an outlet for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs.
The emphasis is on building self-esteem, developing leadership qualities and striving for personal and social achievement. For more information, visit www.abroaderway.org.
