Posted: Updated:

The school year is almost over and moms and dads are starting to plan summer activities for their families. With air travel so expensive these days, more and more families are opting to do “stay-cations.”

One great (and affordable) place to check out for your summer stay-cation is The Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort. Heidi Goitia showed us some of the highlights on Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona.

The Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort resort is renowned for its four-acre water park. Rates start at just $109, beginning May 26.

The all-suite resort located at the base of the Phoenix Mountain Reserve is celebrating America's favorite summer experiences with “The Great American Summer.” Hosted weekends May 26 - Sept. 8, 2015, families can splash into classic summer fun with a rotating line-up of weekly themes and related activities.

In addition to poolside dive-in movies on Friday nights and daily poolside activities, themed weekends will include:

-Beach Party - Splash into the resort's River Ranch water park for a family beach party featuring themed poolside activities, food and drink specials, and special family events.

-Sock Hop - Turn up the juke box and grab a root beer float as the resort's River Ranch is transformed to 1950-something with throw-back events and activities for the whole family.

-Carnival - Magic and mystery will fill the air at River Ranch for a summer carnival featuring games, activities and spirited carnival-inspired foods.

-Poolside Luau - Channeling the Hawaiian Islands, luaus, limbo and festive music and island fare will fill the air at River Ranch.

Holiday BBQs - Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends will feature all things red, white and blue including classic poolside BBQs and poolside dive-in movies.

The resort features an amazing four acres of water park fun with a half-mile lazy river perfect for tubing, a water slide, a sport pool, and a kids pool, all surrounded by 18 holes of mini-golf.

Guests of all ages can participate in organized daily poolside activities including cannon ball contests, scavenger hunts, tug-of-war, waterslide races, watermelon-eating contests, hole-in-one contests and more. The resort's on-site Coyote Kids Camp will also be chock-full of specialized activities for kids ages 4-12 with full-day, half-day and evening camp programs available starting from $35. Led by qualified camp counselors, programming includes chef's cooking classes, science and art projects, outdoor adventures such as scavenger hunts and more.

While the kids play at Coyote camp, parents can escape to Tocasierra Spa located just steps away. Just for The Great American Summer, guests can choose from a festive menu of Americana-inspired spa treatments including an Ice Cream Pedicure ($65) finished with a scoop of old fashioned ice cream to go, and Let It Glow Honey! Body Scrub ($135) offering an indulgent 80-minute old-fashioned honey and sugar scrub.

Rates from $109 are available for stays May 26 - Sept. 8, 2015 for standard suite accommodations based on availability. Rates do not include daily $22 resort fee.
