SandFest 2015 brings extreme beach fun to the ValleyPosted: Updated:
The Children's Museum of Phoenix is bringing the beach to the Valley for SandFest 2015.
Visitors can kick off their summer with the free outdoor festival and sandcastle competition all weekend long starting today, May 1 and running until Sunday, May 3. The museum is throwing an adult play date event tonight, and a two-day sandcastle festival on Saturday and Sunday.
The museum is hosting a Sand-A-Palooza Play Date event tonight from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. This adults-only play night will feature food trucks, cash bars, giant jenga, giant beer pong, retro games, music by DJ Miss Mixx and dancing. The Sand Guys from the Travel Channel's Sand Masters will also make an appearance at the event.
Tickets for the Play date are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Visitors must be at least 21 years old to attend. Proceeds from the Play Date will benefit the Children's Museum's Every Child Program, which provides free and reduced museum admission for children and families in need.
On Saturday, May 2, attendees can celebrate summer with a free festival from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Sand Guys will create a signature sand sculpture for the museum, and Valley sand-masters can compete in a sandcastle building competition. The festival will also have food trucks and live music.
Sunday, May 3 is Sand-Parents Day from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The free summer fun will continue and there will be special activities and entertainment for grandparents and their grandchildren. All visitors can get into the museum for $8 per person, and admission will be free for grandparents and grandchildren visiting the museum together. The Sand-Parent Day is sponsored by the Carstens Family Funds.
