PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Just in time for summer, LEGOLAND California Resort has some new attractions guaranteed to capture the interest of young and old alike.

Star Wars fans will love seeing the new Star Wars Death Star model display. It is the largest Star Wars model ever added to Star Wars Miniland.

"It weighs more than 1,900 pounds," says resort spokesman Jake Gonzales."It's 8 feet tall, 13 feet in diameter, and made out of more than half a million LEGO bricks."

The LEGO Death Star features six  iconic scenes from the Death Star, including the famous trench run scene where Luke Skywalker blows up the space station.

Guests can also enjoy constructing their own star hip at one of the building stations, and be inspired by one of the 58 starships that are orbiting the massive model.

Master builders work for hours and hours to create these models. "I basically take an idea and turn it into something made out of LEGO bricks," says master builder Rob McCarthy.

LEGOLAND California Resort is also getting ready to open the new LEGO Friends Heartlake City on May 21.
