In the wake of tragedies and natural disasters like Saturday's earthquake in Nepal, ensuring the safety of a loved one is a difficult and stressful task. The Red Cross has launched a new app to help connect and update people before, during and after any emergency.

The Red Cross Emergency app is free to download on any smartphone. The app includes weather updates and alerts as well as expert advice for actions to take during floods, hurricanes, fires and other disasters.

The Family Safe feature in the app allows people to stay in contact with friends and family to let them know that they are safe. Users can set up alerts for any area in the world by entering the zip code of a loved one.

The Red Cross Earthquake app is a must-have for those who live in earthquake-prone areas or for those who have a loved one in these areas. The app gives real-time updates and safety tools before, during and after a disaster, like the strobe light feature that will make it easier for emergency responders to find you in a disaster situation.
