Shred-A-Thon to benefit Kyrene Foundation this Saturday
Have old documents that need shredding? Want to get rid of them and help those in need?
If so, head on over to the annual Shred-A-Thon, being held this Saturday April 11 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Monte Vista Elementary School at 15221 S. Ray Rd. The event is the brainchild of Stainton and realtor Shirley Coomer and is supported by several local real estate-related companies.
Stainton says people only need to bring some nonperishable food items as a donation in order to get their documents shredded.
“We hope to collect 1,000 pounds of food this spring to help stock the shelves for the upcoming summer as well as fill the truck with an additional 2,000 pounds of shredded material," Stainton said. "All proceeds go to charities in our community.”
Last fall, the Shred-A-Thon pulled in 700 pounds of food and 5,758 pounds of shredded paper, which Stainton says, equates to saving 72 trees and re-donated $430 raised.
