Celebrate sweet treats during National Baking Week

This week is National Baking Week, which means it's time to break out the aprons and break in that sweet tooth. In honor of the sweet holiday, The Bakery PHX is offering 20 percent off of fresh-baked goods from today, April 6 until April 12. Each day they will offer a different treat to hit the spot.

On Monday, stop by to get cookies for a discounted price. The Bakery will have cupcakes for sale on Tuesday, Scones on Wednesday, Brownies and blondies on Thursday, and almond croissants to finish up the week of sweets on Saturday.

The Bakery PHX Owner and baker, Lisa Levinson, offered up her tricks of the trade for chocolate chip cookies:

Chocolate Chip Cookies:
Original recipe makes 4 dozen
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt.
Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
