Get outdoor cats fixed, vaccinated for free in April
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -
Three Valley animal organizations are offering free spay and neuter surgeries for pets for the entire month of April.
The initiative is an effort to end pet homelessness in Maricopa County from the Fix. Adopt. Save. Alliance. Altered Tails Barhnart Clinics, the Animal Defense League of Arizona and PetSmart Charities have teamed up with Fix. Adopt. Save. to make the program possible.
Residents can bring in their own outdoor cats to Valley Altered Tails locations for the procedure, or the clinics will offer spay, neuter and vaccinations services to outdoor cats that are humanely trapped by volunteers and then returned to their original location.
Trap-Neuter-Return is the most humane and effective method for controlling feral, or outdoor, cat populations.
The Arizona Humane Society and Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelters see an average of 450 kittens come to the shelters every month.
