Phoenix man gets prison in 2013 killing of a homeless man

A Phoenix man has been sentenced to 10 1/2 years in prison in the 2013 death of a 70-year-old homeless man.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 31-year-old Joseph Aguilera was sentenced Thursday on one count of manslaughter.

Aguilera pleaded guilty in the July 2013 attack on the man outside a convenience store in Phoenix.

Phoenix police say Aguilera was accused of punching the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

Aguilera then allegedly fled the scene, leaving the elderly victim in a comatose state.

The victim died at a hospital and police say they were able to identify Aguilera from video footage of the attack that was recorded by store surveillance cameras.

Aguilera originally pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder but reached a manslaughter plea-agreement in January.
