'Eight's Check, Please! Arizona Festival' features great food, award-winning chefs

"Eight's Check, Please! Arizona Festival" is set to take over CityScape in downtown Phoenix this Sunday.

The festival is a major fundraiser for Eight, Arizona PBS, and is in its third year.

It celebrates the three-time Emmy Award-winning Show, Check, Please! Arizona, hosted by award-winning Chef Robert McGrath in roundtable discussions with regular consumers who share information about their favorite independent Arizona restaurants. Those restaurants range from casual eateries to fine-dining establishments.

Mark Tarbell of Tarbell's Restaurant joined us on Thursday's Good Morning Arizona to tell us more about the event. This year, he will be one of the featured chefs, and Tarbell's will be showcased as a participating restaurant.

The 2015 festival will also showcase demos by Arizona's chef talent, including a second panel of top Valley chefs, in addition to a lineup of cooking demonstrations by local chefs on two stages, provided by SubZero/Wolf, and a tour of favorite wines by Chef Christopher Gross, including tastings and tips for food pairings.

Up to 26 restaurants will be participating in this event. They include: Switch Restaurant & Wine Bar; The Wild Thaiger; Salerno's; Haus Murphy's; Frasher's Steakhouse & Lounge; The Salt Cellar; Flavors of Louisiana; Rancho Pinot; Cowboy Ciao; Jewel of the Crown; Cucina Tagliani; Tarbell's; San Tan Brewing Company; Thee Pitts “Again”; Hob Nob; Phoenix City Grille; Red, White and Brew; Betty's Nosh; Avanti Restaurant; MacAlpine's Restaurant & Soda Fountain; TEXAZ Grill.

$79 in advance; $89 at the door. Tickets include food, wine and beer sampling as well as panel discussions, cooking demonstrations and guest lectures. Last year, the event sold out.
