Two people are fighting for their lives after they were pulled from a burning car.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the victims are 21 years old.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at 99th Avenue and Cameo Drive when the driver lost control of the car, hit a guardrail, and then the car burst into flames.
The two suffered injuries from the impact and then severe burns from the car fire.
MCSO said they were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by the fire department.
They were then airlifted to the Maricopa County Medical Center.
MCSO said it was a single-vehicle crash, and investigators are still looking into what caused the driver to lose control of the car.
"The driver of the vehicle lost control and actually went head-on with the guardrail, splitting the vehicle in two. When the vehicle caught on fire, both victims were obviously trapped, suffered severe burns, and obviously injuries due to the accident," MCSO Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said.
MCSO said investigators are looking into impairment.
