4 escape west Phoenix house fire

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A family of four escaped a fire at their west Phoenix home Saturday afternoon.

When Phoenix and Glendale firefighters arrived at the home near 48th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, they found the rear engulfed in flames, according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Benjamin Santillan.

They quickly deployed fire hoses and were able to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

Santillan said the four occupants escaped but with only two of their dogs.

A neighbor, who is a Vietnam veteran, ran into the home to try to find the third dog but was overcome by smoke. Santillan said the man was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and went to the hospital in his personal vehicle.

The dog was not immediately located.

The fire is under investigation.
