GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -
Glendale police have identified a motorcyclist found dead three days after he apparently crashed in a remote area near the Loop 101 and Union Hills Boulevard.
A bicyclist discovered the body Wednesday afternoon. Police believe the crash occurred late Sunday evening.
Investigators said it appears that Corey Stirnes, 27, of Peoria, had been driving his motorcycle southbound on the access road of the Loop 101, approaching Union Hills. The motorcycle left the roadway and went into the wash area to the west.
Sgt. David Vidaure said the area is dark at night and the wash is below the level of the roadway.
While officers were on the scene, a family member contacted the Glendale Police Department about Stirnes being missing. The information gathered from that relative revealed that Stirnes had last been seen exiting the Loop 101 in that area late Sunday evening.
Police said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
