QUARTZSITE, Ariz. -- A car chase involving a couple wanted for murder crossed the border from California into Arizona, and one of the suspects was shot and killed by law enforcement after she allegedly waved a gun at officers.

The pursuit started in Riverside County and ended in Arizona where the couple eventually lost control of the car they were driving.

The traffic backed up on Interstate 10 when officials located the fleeing couple.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office had been trying to locate a man and woman who allegedly murdered a woman a mile north of San Francisco.

"They were on the run basically," said Lt. Curt Bagby with La Paz County Sheriff’s Office.

The pursuit started Saturday afternoon in Riverside County.

La Paz County deputies said they got word that the two were heading eastbound on I-10 toward Arizona.

"While they were driving on the California side, they had taken random shots at people driving on the interstate either to distract the officers or cause enough of a commotion to block traffic and get away," said Lt. Bagby.

Bagby said officers threw out spike strips and flattened two tires.

"Another spike strip took out the other two tires," he said. "Once they got into Arizona, they made it a mile and a half then the vehicle spun out; they fled on foot into the desert. The male suspect ended up giving up. The female displayed a weapon and one of the deputies from Riverside County ended up shooting her."

She died, but the surviving suspect, Victor Silva of Greenbrae, will be facing several felony charges.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office would like to hear from any witnesses or victims of the shootings that happened during the pursuit along Interstate 10.

Call the Riverside County Sheriff's Office at 760-868-8990 or La Paz County Sheriff's office at 928-669-6141.
