GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Phoenix police are investigating after a child was found walking alone in Glendale early Saturday morning.

A Glendale police officer reportedly found the boy, who is approximately 2 years old and was wearing pajamas, near 51st and Grovers avenues around 5:30 a.m.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Howard said the boy appeared happy and healthy, but was unable to say his name or where he lives.

Police canvassed the neighborhood and also received a call from the boy's family when they realized he was missing as they started their day.

According to Howard, the family said the child has a tendency to wander and that they had taken steps to secure their home. They told police they will take additional steps immediately.

Police notified the Arizona Department of Child Safety to assist with the investigation.
